DON'T STOP LOOKING TO THE HILLS

Many times, we go through life and things just happen - some good and some bad. This has been especially true as the world finds itself coming out of a pandemic and as we continue to heal from a plethora of mass shootings affecting cities, schools, and neighborhoods all around the country. We do what we can to keep it all together as best we can.  But sometimes, so many things happen all at once that it overwhelms us.  Things are so twisted up that we cannot see our way through.  Sometimes life throws us a blow that makes it seem as if there is no hope. Moreover, all the people we depended on in the past are no longer available to us. It seems as if there is no help at all.

I remember when I was a kid, and it seems trivial now compared to what I’ve mentioned above, yet it is a memory worth telling as it carries a solution for a time such as this. I was out playing at a friend’s house and it began to snow.  I was just down the street from my house but I needed to call my father so that he could come to see me home safely in the snow.  I remember how happy and comforted I was knowing that I could call my father to help me and he would come.  But when I became a man, there were some things I got myself into that my earthly father could not help me out of.   Friends, I can still feel how pivotal those moments were because in them I learned that God’s ability to help me was and is only limited by my faith.

Psalm 121:1 says I will lift mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help; my help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth.  Psalms 124:8 says our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.  So when we seek the Lord, He is our present help in the time of trouble.  No matter what comes our way, we need to know that all our help comes from the Lord and that there is power in the name of the Lord!  There is something about His name, that when we speak the name of Jesus, hearts, minds, and circumstances have to change. No matter what the problem is, whether it is big or small, it has got to change. Make no mistake my friends, there is power in the name of the Lord!

Psalm 46:1 says God is our refuge and strength and a very present help in trouble.  The word ‘present’ would suggest that God is a ‘now’ help and that when we call upon the name of the Lord, change occurs immediately.  Let me clarify this 'now' is not like the thirty second button on the microwave but it is a wait on the Lord and be of good courage type of help that happens in God’s time, which is right on time for us! Again, friends, it is all according to our faith and when we are challenged by life’s circumstances, we can’t stop looking towards heaven - the hills - because all of our help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.  We need to have enough faith in God to know that He will take care of us. We need to believe that God is still in control and that He is our source!  We need to trust that it is God who keeps us day by day. We need to guard our faith in the process of our transformation because it is God who heals us, God who provides for us, and it is God who is our all in all!

No matter what problems life may bring our way, we must be determined to keep looking to the hills.  The Bible tells us, “but my God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Friends there is power, there is hope, there is healing, and there is saving Grace when we turn to the Most High God.  Always remember God will not only match us, but He will do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can think or ask when we speak up and tell the proverbial mountain (issue-problem-worry-fear) that’s in our way to move. And when we use our mustard seed of Faith, it grows into a level of trust that cannot be moved, changed, or denied because it’s a fixed fight. For those of us who believe in the Promises of the Most High God know, we have already won!
